Weekend Recap

How was your weekend? Was it hot? Was it busy? Was it relaxed? Was it the first weekend after the start of school?

Here is Coastal Alabama, it is hot but we are fortunate to have the Gulf keep it from getting as hot as some other places we have lived. Sometimes Cletus likes to check in and see what the temperatures are like in Central Alabama and Central Georgia where we used to live and most of the time, the temperatures are a little more moderate here. Even so, a "moderate" 95 is pretty uncomfortable!

At not quite two weeks out from knee replacement surgery, Cletus is still recovering and indoors most of the time. We are taking a break from the Coastal Alabama Farmers and Fishermens Market for a couple of weeks so we are more relaxed than busy. Yet even without the market prep and market day busy-ness, the work here can fill time nicely.

The baby chickens are growing and need frequent attention and care (and I enjoy just being around them).

They are a cross between Rhode Island Reds and Buff Orpingtons, and I think they look like miniature Bald Eagles at this stage.

The quail are low-maintenance, but do still need daily food and water, sand-box refills, and evening egg collections.

The garden is minimal right now. We have Seminole Pumpkins, a few cherry tomatoes, and some indoor lettuce going and that is it until Cletus can get back out into the garden.

The batteries on the security cameras had to be replaced and it was discovered that one of the cameras had been knocked down by either a storm or a possum. Fortunately that was a simple fix.

I have been working on a project for the kids at our church which has given me some fun work to do over the weekend.

Cletus' recovery has been so much better than we expected and had experienced with his last knee surgery. Saturday night he decided he might be well enough to go to church Sunday morning! (I think last time it was a month or so before he could try that). Sure enough, we got up early Sunday morning and were able to go to the (less crowded) early service. I don't know who was more surprised; me, or our church family! It was wonderful to be there with them in person. I often talk about the Prayer for the Recovery of a Sick Person in our prayer book. I love that it ends with "...that...they may be restored to health of body and mind, according to your gracious will, and may give thanks to you in your holy Church...". Isn't that beautiful? The end result is that we may give thanks to God in His holy Church for our healing. We certainly did that today!

The rest of the day has been spent resting, reading, and thinking about what the week ahead holds. I imagine there will be some unexpected surprises ~ there usually are! ~ and I am looking forward to them.
